Damage Analysis

Failure analysis is used to systematically examine components in order to determine the causes of failure. Based on the results, targeted measures are developed to improve quality and reliability.

Procedure

The structured analysis is based on a multi-step, systematic process:

1. Definition of boundary conditions

Identification of all relevant operating and environmental conditions:

  • Profiles (static, dynamic)
  • Temperature and media resistance
  • Installation situation and mounting conditions
  • Comparison with specified operating loads
  • Service life and history of the component

2. Visual and macroscopic inspection

An initial condition assessment provides indications of typical damage patterns:

  • Cracking or delamination
  • Corrosion on metallic components
  • Signs of aging in the elastomer
  • Signs of overload or fatigue

3. Material and laboratory analyses

If necessary, further investigations are conducted:

  • Testing the adhesion between rubber and metal
  • Hardness and elasticity measurements
  • Microscopic analyses of the crack structure and bond surfaces
  • Chemical analyses (e.g. aging or chemical attack)

4. Evaluation and root cause analysis

The data obtained is systematically evaluated to identify the actual causes of damage:

  • Design-related weaknesses
  • Material selection or combination
  • Manufacturing or process deviations
  • Inappropriate operating conditions
  • Excessive loads

5. Recommendations for action

Based on the analysis, practical and cost-effective solutions are developed:

  • Optimization of materials and compounds
  • Adjustment of geometry or design
  • Improvements in the manufacturing process
  • Recommendations for use and installation

Benefits

  • Fast and Reliable Failure or Root Cause Analysis
  • Reduction of Failures and Downtime
  • Optimization of component lifespan and performance
  • Expert advice directly from the manufacturer
  • Comprehensive overview from material to application or operational use
