Rammer or tamping roller buffer
Rammer or tamping roller buffers are elastic components used in hand-guided soil compaction equipment - particularly rammers - to reduce the impact and vibration forces generated by the machine. They are a key component of hand-arm decoupling and play a significant role in minimizing the strain on operators and improving ergonomic safety during the compaction process.
Area of application
Rammer buffers are primarily used in hand-guided vibrating rammers, which are employed for soil compaction on construction sites, in earthwork and sewer construction and in landscaping. The buffers are located between the drive unit and the guide bracket and reduce the transmission of high-frequency impact pulses generated during the compaction stroke. This significantly reduces hand-arm vibrations, which not only improves operator comfort but also helps ensure compliance with occupational health limits. They also protect machine components from excessive stress.
Technical details
Rammer buffers consist of metal components of various configurations combined with durable elastomers that have defined stiffness and damping characteristics. They are designed to absorb both vertical and horizontal forces generated by the tampering process. Material composition, geometry, and Shore hardness have a decisive influence on the vibration behavior.
Characteristics
Rammer buffers have elastic properties that serve two functions simultaneously: They transfer the vibration energy required for compaction while also limiting the vibration load on the hands and arms. Their material hardness, geometry and design are selected to enable them to absorb high forces. They are resistant to abrasion and weathering and maintain their dimensional stability even under varying load cycles. One of their most important characteristics is their defined elastic behavior, which enables controlled decoupling between the drive and the operating handle. In addition, they help reduce operator fatigue, improve the device’s handling, and promote uniform compaction through controlled force transmission.
