Round / Bicone bearing
Round bearings, known as Bicone bearings, each consisting of a lower and an upper rubber-metal component, are used as elastic mounting elements in the bogies of railway vehicles. They serve to safely transmit forces while effectively damping vibrations, shocks and noise generated during operation. As a result, they improve ride comfort, reduce wear on adjacent components and increase operational safety as well as the service life of the units.
Area of application
Round Bearings (also known as Bicone bearings), each consisting of a lower and an upper rubber-metal component, are used in the bogies of all types of rail vehicles as elastic mounting elements to securely mount power units and load-bearing assemblies between the upper and lower superstructures. Their purpose is to absorb high static and dynamic forces while effectively isolating vibrations, shocks and noise generated during operation. Typical applications include the mounting of drive units, transmissions or engines. The circular bearings contribute to smooth operation, ride comfort, reduced wear and an extended service life for the bogie components.
Technical details
Round bearings, known as Bicone bearings, consist of an upper and a lower rubber-metal element of different heights. The conical elastomer body safely accommodates high vertical loads as well as additional radial and limited axial forces, such as those encountered in the mounting of power units in bogies. The rubber body performs the elastic spring and damping functions, while the metal elements ensure dimensionally stable mounting and defined force transmission. Through the careful selection of rubber compound and hardness grade, stiffness, damping characteristics and natural frequency can be adapted to the specific vehicle and power unit design. In addition, Bicone mounts allow for small angular and relative movements, which compensates for tolerances and effectively reduces vibrations and shocks during operation. The pair of round mounts, with their different heights ensures proper load distribution.
Characteristics
Round bearings—known as Bicone bearings—made of rubber and metal provide an effective combination of elastic support and high load-carrying capacity in the bogies of railway vehicles. They significantly reduce vibrations, shocks, and structure-borne noise generated during operation, thereby contributing to improved ride comfort and lower noise levels. At the same time, they enable controlled force transmission and compensate for tolerances as well as relative movements between the power unit and the vehicle structure. Thanks to their maintenance-free and durable design, they increase operational reliability and reduce wear on adjacent components. Overall, Bicone bearings support smooth operation and extend the service life of the units mounted in the bogie.
