Spring Element | Power Transmission

In the design of railway vehicles, a precisely tuned spring and damping system is required to ensure ride comfort, safety and the service life of the components. The bogie plays a central role in this process: It transmits forces between the wheel, the bogie frame and the car body, while simultaneously damping vibrations and shocks resulting from wheel-rail contact. The suspension elements ensure stable guidance in the longitudinal, lateral and vertical directions and absorb dynamic loads caused by track irregularities, cornering, acceleration or braking. At the same time, they reduce vibrations, protect the structure from fatigue and ensure a smooth, comfortable ride even at high speeds. Numerous products and systems are used to enable elastic movement and dampen vibrations at the bogie’s articulation points.
