Roller

Rubber-to-metal bonded rollers are load-bearing, guiding and rolling components in machines and systems. They consist of a metal core, which provides stability and an elastic rubber tread that dampens vibrations and protects the surface. Unlike an impeller, which primarily transmits drive forces and is responsible for propulsion, a roller serves mainly to guide, distribute load and ensure smooth rolling without actively applying drive force. As a result, it fulfills a supporting function in a system’s motion sequence.

Area of application

Rollers made from rubber and metall are used in a wide variety of industrial environments where loads need to be guided, supported or moved. Typical applications include agricultural machinery and vehicles, conveyor systems, transport systems, assembly and testing systems and construction machinery. Thanks to their elastic running surface, they enable quiet, low-vibration movement while protecting sensitive floors or running surfaces. Rollers play a particularly important role in areas where quiet and smooth movement is required - for example, when handling sensitive cargo or in precision manufacturing processes.

Technical details

Rollers consist of a metal support body - which can be designed as a hub, disc, or core - and a permanently vulcanized elastomer tread. The metal core ensures dimensional stability, load-bearing capacity and a secure connection to axles or guide systems. The rubber is tailored to the requirements of the specific application in terms of hardness, material composition, tread pattern and width. This enables the casters to withstand high radial loads while effectively damping shocks and vibrations. Depending on the application, durable rubber compounds are used that are resistant to oils, temperatures or abrasive stresses. Roller diameters and geometries are specified with regard to speed, load capacity and running characteristics.

Characteristics

Rollers made from rubber and metallare characterized by a combination of high load-bearing capacity, effective shock absorption and smooth operation. The elastic tread reduces noise, minimizes vibrations and protects floors from abrasion and pressure marks. At the same time, the metal core provides structural strength, precision and durability, even under dynamic load cycles. The rollers are largely maintenance-free, low-wear and can be used reliably in a wide variety of environments. Their smooth rolling action ensures gentle transport and contributes to the operational safety of the entire system.
